The first 30 days

Mark the doorframe as you go

Nobody feels ready on day one. A small plan, one step at a time, gets you to day 30.

Read the full 30-day guide
  1. Day 1

    One quiet room

Water, a bed, a place to settle. Keep the first day boring on purpose.

  2. Days 2 to 3

    Learn the rhythm

Jot down meals, sleep and toilet trips. Notes make a vet call easier.

  3. Week 1

    Book the vet

Ask which vaccines and parasite prevention suit your pet, and when.

  4. Weeks 2 to 3

    Gentle practice

Short, kind handling of paws and ears. Short stretches of being alone.

  5. Day 30

    Look how far you came

Mark the doorframe, keep your notes, and breathe.

  1. Tell us a little. Name, type, age and weight make the question clearer.

A note from Paul, the founder: I uploaded a photo of a problem on my cat Lucky to an earlier version of this site. The AI suggested taking her to a vet quickly. I took her in; she had a bad infection and was treated. That is one owner's experience. AI cannot diagnose, results vary, and when in doubt, call a vet. Find a vet near you.

Photo questions are free too (they count toward your two a day). Useful for skin issues, eyes, wounds and swelling. A photo can't rule out infection or an emergency, and AI cannot diagnose. Never wait for AI if your pet seems unwell: call a vet. The image is sent to our AI provider to answer, and is not saved by us. Find a vet

Good questions

Before you ask

No. Paw & Whisker is made by Paul, a pet parent. Everything here is general educational information. It cannot diagnose your pet or tell you that waiting is safe.

Why it exists

Built by a pet parent, not a vet

I'm Paul. I made this after living with my cats, Lucky and Sugar, and learning how fast small worries turn big when you have no one to ask. Read more about Paul and the cats.

An earlier version of this site helped once. I sent it a photo of a problem on Lucky, it told me to see a vet quickly, and I took her in. She had a bad infection and was treated. That is one owner's experience, not a diagnosis or a promise. AI cannot diagnose, results vary, and when in doubt, call a vet.
